This Panel Discussion event is geared towards students and emerging professionals in the lighting industry and focuses on career development and advancement. The panel will consist of a representative from several branches of our lighting industry – an Architect/Interior Designer, Engineer, Lighting Designer, Rep, Manufacturer and more!

Mike Johnson II, Architect & Interior Designer
Mike Johnson II, AIA IIDA, a Washington, DC native, is a Senior Associate in the Perkins and Will Washington, DC studio. With a license as both an architect and interior designer, combined with 17 years of experience, his work has focused on providing innovative and creative solutions for commercial interior spaces that incorporate the latest research and trends. Mike’s Client has ranged from high-end corporate interior workplace design, building re-positioning and trade floor facilities throughout the country.
His belief is that design is a careful and thoughtful process through captivating storytelling, that addresses the unique requirements of a project and embraces those qualities to create a one-of-a-kind solution. Mike is the current President of the IIDA Mid-Atlantic Chapter and was recently featured in IIDA’s Perspective magazine article “The Instagram Effect.”
Paul Pickard, Manufacturer
Paul Pickard is a 21-year veteran of the lighting industry, having held technical leadership positions at Acuity Brands, LED Lighting Fixtures, Cree Lighting, and is currently CTO at Ecosense Lighting. He has provided technical leadership for a number of industry-first and award-winning products, including the LLF LR6 downlight module, the Cree CR-series LED Troffer family, and the Ecosense Trov and Rise product families to name a few. A Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of New Mexico, his current areas of focus are strategic technology development, systems engineering, optical innovation, and color science. He holds over 200 US patents, with many more pending.
Scott Guenther, Lighting Designer
Mr. Guenther has been working as a lighting designer since 1997. His project experience includes interior and exterior lighting design for hospitality, corporate office, higher education, and healthcare. He has been an active member of the IALD since 2004 and a former IES District of Columbia section board member.
